What to expect

The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is a historic cathedral and one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the world. The cathedral is built in granite masonry with roofs in slabs of the same material and features a mix of Romanesque, Baroque, and Neoclassical architectural styles. The cathedral's interior includes a number of chapels, a cloister, and a large nave with stilted barrel vaults. The Obradoiro facade, designed by Fernando de Casas y Novoa, is a notable feature of the cathedral and features a large window. The cathedral is also home to the tomb of the Apostle Saint James and is the final destination of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. Visitors can attend mass and explore the cathedral's many chapels and artworks, including the famous Botafumeiro, a large censer that is swung during special ceremonies
