The Plaza de Oriente is a square in the historic center of Madrid, Spain, rectangular in shape and monumental in character. It was designed in 1844 by Narciso Pascual y Colomer and is located between important landmarks such as the Royal Palace, the Teatro Real, and the Royal Monastery of the Incarnation. The square has statues of 44 Spanish kings from the medieval period and features a monument dedicated to Philip IV of Spain at its heart. The plaza also includes the equestrian statue of Felipe IV, which stands 12 meters tall and 17 meters in diameter. The surrounding gardens are designed in geometrical shapes to provide air and enhance the façade of the Royal Palace.
