Montserrat is a multi-peaked mountain range near Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain. It is part of the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range and is known for its unique rock formations and stunning natural beauty. The mountain is home to the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary. The municipality of Monistrol de Montserrat is situated at the foot of the mountain and includes the southern two-thirds of the massif. The town is connected to the monastery by the Montserrat Rack Railway and has a population of around 3,000 people. Montserrat is a popular destination for hiking and climbing, with several trails and routes available for visitors. The mountain is also home to a variety of flora and fauna, and its unique geology has led to the formation of typical karst landforms, such as cave systems and karst towers
