Gothic Quarter

Historic district Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain

What to expect

The Gothic Quarter is the historic centre of the old city of Barcelona, stretching from La Rambla to Via Laietana, and from the Mediterranean seafront to the Ronda de Sant Pere. It is a part of Ciutat Vella district and encompasses the oldest parts of the city, including the remains of the city's Roman wall and several notable medieval landmarks. The quarter has a labyrinthine street plan, with many small streets opening out into squares, and is home to many medieval buildings, such as the palaces of the City Hall and the Generalitat, the Barcelona Cathedral, and the Gothic churches of Santa Maria del Pi and Sant Just i Pastor. Visitors can explore the narrow streets, visit the many cafes and bars, and enjoy the lively nightlife. The area is also known for its shopping, with a range of boutiques and commercial areas, including Calle Portal de L'Angel and Calle Avinyo
