Teide, or Mount Teide, is a volcano on Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain. Its summit is the highest point in Spain and the highest point above sea level in the islands of the Atlantic. The volcano and its surroundings make up Teide National Park, which has an area of 18,900 hectares and was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007. Teide is the most visited natural wonder of Spain, the most visited national park in Spain and Europe, and one of the most visited in the world, with some 3 million visitors yearly. The park features a unique landscape with constantly changing textures and tones, and a 'sea of clouds' that forms a visually impressive backdrop to the mountain. According to the beliefs of the Canary Island aboriginals, Guayota, the king of evil, lived inside Teide, and the Guanches asked Achamán, their supreme god, for mercy, and he managed to defeat Guayota and rescue the god Magec from the depths of Mount Teide
