The Bo-Kaap is a historically rich neighbourhood in Cape Town, known for its vibrant, predominantly Muslim, Cape Malay community and its bold, flat-roofed, colourful houses and cobbled stone roads. The area is situated at the foot of Signal Hill and has a mix of Cape Dutch and Georgian architecture. The brightly coloured houses are said to be an expression of freedom by the homeowners, who were previously required to keep the houses white while on lease. The Bo-Kaap is home to the oldest mosque in South Africa, the Auwal Mosque, and the Bo-Kaap Museum, which showcases the history and culture of the area. Visitors can explore the area's rich history, try traditional Cape Malay cuisine, and experience the unique culture of the community
