Kamen Castle

Castle Radovljica, Radovljica, Slovenia

What to expect

Kamen Castle is a picturesque ruin of a castle that stands atop a rocky promontory at the entrance to the Draga valley. The castle has a preserved Romanesque tower and magnificent ruins of Gothic and Renaissance entrances. It was built in the 12th century by the Counts of Ortenburg and later owned by the Counts of Celje and the Counts of Lambergh. The castle is famous for being the home of the tournament knight Gašper Lambergar, who is mentioned in the Slovenian folk song Pegam and Lambergar. Visitors can explore the castle ruins and enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding mountain scenery. The castle is also part of the Lamberg Trail theme path, which leads to nearby archaeological sites. A guided tour of the castle is available, which includes a walk through the ruins and a short hike to nearby archaeological sites

Slovenia with children: mountains and caves and friendly people
This family's experience:

Activities: We explored the ruins of the medieval castle at the end of the Draga gorge. We discovered the old walls on our own, which was adventurous for the children

Highlights: The old walls were great to explore! But be careful, the construction is only rudimentarily secured ✨
