Velika Planina is a magical plateau with one of the largest herdsmen's settlements in Europe. The settlement comprises about 140 huts, with characteristic architecture and traditional spruce shingle roofs. Visitors can learn about the fascinating life on the mountain pasture, sample dairy goodies, and take a walk through the meadows or hike across the plateau. The plateau comes alive in June with the arrival of shepherds who tend to their grazing herds. Visitors can also explore the Snow Mary chapel, the Vetrnica cave, and the Preskar Museum, which showcases the cultural heritage of the area. Traditional shepherd's food, such as sour milk and žganci, is available, and visitors can even spend a night or two in one of the huts like the shepherds do

Activities: We took the chairlift up to Velika Planina, a ski resort in winter. In the summer, we enjoyed a beautiful walk among the old, typical shepherd houses. There are many paths, so it is easy to extend the walk with children, depending on what you want
Highlights: The children enjoyed the ride on the chairlift. The walk through the shepherd houses was fascinating and a great way to enjoy the outdoors ✨
