The State Russian Museum is a unique depository of artistic treasures, a leading restoration center, an authoritative institute of academic research, and a major educational center. The museum collection contains over 400,000 exhibits, tracing the entire history of Russian art from the 10th to the 20th centuries. The main complex of museum buildings includes the Mikhailovsky Palace and Benois Wing, which houses the permanent exhibition. The museum also includes other buildings and locations, such as the Stroganov Palace, St Michael's Castle, and the Marble Palace. The collection shows Russian art from the 10th century up to the 21st century, covering all genres from old Russian icon painting to contemporary art
