The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is a Russian Orthodox church that functions as a secular museum and church. It was constructed between 1883 and 1907 and is one of Saint Petersburg's major attractions. The church was erected on the site where Emperor Alexander II was assassinated in 1881 and was funded by the Romanov imperial family in his honor. The church contains over 7500 square meters of mosaics and its architecture is reminiscent of medieval Russian architecture, differing from Saint Petersburg's predominantly Baroque and Neoclassical style.
