Incrociatore Aurora

Museum ship Saint Petersburg, Northwestern Federal District, Russia

What to expect

The Cruiser Aurora is a historic Russian protected cruiser that played a significant role in the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. The ship was built between 1897 and 1900 and measures 126.8 meters in length, 16.8 meters in width, and weighs 7,600 tons. It has a speed of 20 knots and can travel independently for up to 1,440 sea miles. The Aurora took part in the Russo-Japanese War and was later used as a training ship. In 1917, it fired a blank shot at the Winter Palace, signaling the start of the revolution. Today, the ship is maintained by cadets from the nearby Nakhimov Navy School and is open to visitors. The ship features exhibits, including a portrait of its captain who was killed during the Battle of Tsushima, and part of the ship's penetrated armor that was used to frame the captain's photograph
