The Trans-Siberian Railway is a railway line that stretches 5,771 miles across Russia between Moscow and Vladivostok. It passes through eight time zones and involves a journey time of seven days. The railway has had a profound effect on the region of Siberia as well as great importance in the economic and military history of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. The main route passes through Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, and Ulan-Ude, following the southern shore of Lake Baikal. There are also secondary routes, including the Trans-Mongolian Railroad and the Trans-Manchurian Railroad, which provide connections to Mongolia, China, and North Korea
