Revolution Square

Public square Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania

What to expect

Revolution Square, formerly known as Palace Square, is a historic square in central Bucharest, located on Calea Victoriei. The square is surrounded by important architectural and cultural landmarks, including the Royal Palace, now the National Museum of Art of Romania, the Athenaeum, and the Athénée Palace Hotel. It is also home to the Memorial of Rebirth and the building of the former Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party, from where Nicolae Ceaușescu and his wife fled by helicopter in 1989. The square has great historical importance, being the site of significant events, including the Romanian Revolution of December 1989. Visitors can see the statue of King Carol I, the Kretzulescu Church, and the Union of Romanian Architects building, which is an iconic example of French Renaissance architecture. The square is a must-visit destination for those interested in history and culture, and it's a great starting point for a comprehensive tour of Bucharest
