The Aqueduto dos Pegões is a 6-km long aqueduct with 180 arches, built in the 17th century to supply water to the Convent of Christ in Tomar. It is one of the largest and most impressive aqueducts in Portugal, with a dual layer of arches in the deepest zones, reaching a maximum height of 30 metres. The aqueduct was designed by the architect Filippo Terzi and features simple arches, with a semi-circular limestone gutter for the water. It is a notable example of engineering and architecture from the period, showcasing the skill and craftsmanship of its builders
