Loulé Castle

Castle Loulé, Faro, Portugal

What to expect

The Castle of Loulé, located in the municipality of Loulé, in the Portuguese Algarve, is a castle with Moorish origins and a rich history dating back to the 2nd century. The castle features a great walled perimeter and several towers, including a magnificent quadrangular tower that was originally a minaret. The castle houses the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Loulé, which exhibits Roman pottery and Bronze Age elements. The public baths from the Islamic Almohad era, probably built in the 12th century, are also preserved within the walled perimeter. The castle's patio can be visited freely, and some interesting elements such as canyons or a guillotine are exhibited on it. Guided tours are available by appointment
