What to expect

The Museu dos Biscainhos is a museum located in a beautiful residential palace of a noble family, built in the 17th century. The museum showcases a collection of decorative arts, including furniture, ceramics, glassware, textiles, jewelry, and metalwork, as well as Portuguese and European paintings, sculpture, and drawing. The palace's gardens, inspired by 18th-century French fashions, are some of the best-preserved and most complete examples of the Baroque period. The museum provides a path contextualized by the tastes, traditions, emotions, art, thought, and life of Portuguese society of the period under analysis, making it a great place to visit with family and friends

This family's experience:

Activities: We explored the Museu dos Biscainhos, described as an exceptional 17th-century house. We were greeted with a rather cold reception, and were asked to start the visit in the gardens and come back later. We waited for a long time, then were escorted by two young guides. They took us from room to room without any explanations. The visit ended in the kitchens

Highlights: The RetroKitchen restaurant, with its surprising decor and delicious dishes, made up for the disappointing visit. We also enjoyed Setsubun, a Japanese celebration where we threw grilled soybeans on the Oni (demons) ✨
