Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo

Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo is a small, uninhabited islet located off the south-central coast of the island of São Miguel in the Azores. The islet is a result of the crater of an ancient submerged volcano and is one of São Miguel's main tourist attractions. It is classified as a Nature Reserve, with endemic vegetation lining the walls of its crater and a perfectly circular natural lake inside. The lake is linked to the sea by a narrow channel and has crystal-clear waters, making it excellent for swimming and diving. The islet is also home to many sea birds, including Cory's shearwaters and terns.
