Puno

Town Puno, Puno, Peru

What to expect

Puno is a city located in the southern part of Peru, on the shores of Lake Titicaca. It is a melting pot of Aymara and Quechua cultures, with a unique mixture of modernity and Andean traditions. The city has a picturesque hillside setting, but its architecture is mostly modern and unfinished. Puno is a departure point for visiting the famous floating islands on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca. The city has a cold climate at night and a high risk of altitude sickness due to its elevation of over 3,800 meters. Visitors can enjoy the city's central square, the pedestrian walking street Calle Lima, and the nearby Lake Titicaca. The city's fiesta de la Virgen de la Candelaria was declared a Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad by UNESCO in 2014
