What to expect

Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca, is a mountain in the Andes of Peru, known for its unique colorful appearance. The mountain's colors are a result of the erosion of sedimentary stones and are compared to a terrestrial rainbow. It is located in the Vilcanota mountain range, at an altitude of between 4,710 and 5,200 meters above sea level. The mountain is surrounded by camelids like alpacas and vicuñas, and offers breathtaking views of the Andean landscape. Visitors can hike to the mountain, and it is recommended to acclimate to the altitude before attempting the hike. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from April to November, when the weather is dry and the temperatures are pleasant
