Coricancha

Temple Cusco, Cusco, Peru

What to expect

Coricancha, also known as the Temple of the Sun, is a historic temple in Cusco, Peru. It was the most important temple in the Inca Empire and was dedicated to the sun god Inti. The temple was built using ashlar masonry, with stones cut and shaped to fit together perfectly without mortar. The walls were once covered in sheets of gold, and the adjacent courtyard was filled with golden statues. The temple was also home to the High Priest and was used for religious ceremonies and rituals. Today, visitors can see the remains of the temple, including the foundations and some of the original stonework, which have been incorporated into the Convent of Santo Domingo. The site is a testament to the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the Inca people and is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history and culture
