The Monastery of Santa Catalina de Siena is a large monastery of the Dominican Second Order, located in Arequipa, Peru. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Historical Centre of the City of Arequipa'. The monastery occupies an area of 20,000 square meters and is characterized by its multitude of streets, narrow and tortuous. The citadel has a unique architecture, with solid walls, flying buttresses, and strong arches. The interiors feature domes and vaulted ceilings, and the monastery houses splendid pieces of art, including a Baroque altar and several paintings from the Cusco School. The monastery has a long history, dating back to 1579, and has undergone several transformations over the years, including the entry of many nuns from wealthy families. Today, the monastery is open to the public and offers a glimpse into the life of the nuns who lived there
