Gamle Bybro

Bridge Trondheim, Trondelag, Norway

What to expect

Gamle Bybro, also known as the 'Portal of Happiness', is a historic bridge in Trondheim that connects the City Center with Bakklandet, crossing the river Nidelva. The bridge was built in 1681 and has undergone several modifications, with the current bridge and gates dating from 1861. It is one of Trondheim's most recognizable landmarks and a popular spot for marriage proposals. The bridge is also known for its association with the romantic waltz 'Nidelven stille og vakker du er', written by Oskar Hoddø, who was a resistance fighter during the Second World War
