Arendal is a municipality in Agder county in southeastern Norway, belonging to the region of Sørlandet. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Arendal, which is also the seat of Agder county. The city has a rich history, with its first mention as an important harbor in a toll account from 1528. Arendal was granted full market town rights in 1723. The municipality has a diverse landscape, with a coastline along the Skagerrak and several islands, including Hisøy, Tromøy, and Flosterøya. The city center is characterized by its old harbor and canals, earning it the nickname 'Nordens Venedig' or 'The Venice of the North'. Arendal has a population of around 46,000 people and offers a range of activities and attractions for visitors, including its historic center, museums, and natural surroundings
