What to expect
Punakaiki Cavern is a short walk from the village, offering a fun experience for all ages. A wooden stairway gives access to 130 meters of safe passages within the cavern, where visitors can look out for stalactites and glowworms. The cavern is a great place to explore with a torch, and the surrounding area offers a range of activities, including walks and hikes through luxuriant coastal forest, fantastic limestone cliffs and canyons, and pristine rivers. The nearby Paparoa National Park Visitor Centre provides information on local highlights and hidden gems, making it an ideal base for exploring the area

Activities: We explored the Punakaiki Cavern. "We have come across many freely accessible caves in New Zealand. In front of each of them, a sign indicates the level of difficulty and reminds us of the list of necessary equipment and the safety rules to follow."
