Brunner Mine Site

The Brunner Mine Site is a historic coal mine located on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand. The mine was one of several situated on the banks of the Grey River and was known for its high-quality coal. However, the mine is also infamous for the Brunner Mine disaster, which occurred in 1896 and resulted in the deaths of 65 miners. Today, visitors can walk a loop track with interpretive panels that leads to the remnants of the mine site and a memorial statue. The site also features a restored Q class railway coal wagon and a memorial listing the names of the miners killed in the disaster.
