Carter Observatory

Observatory Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand

What to expect

Space Place at Carter Observatory is a public museum and planetarium with a focus on space and New Zealand astronomy. It houses a digital planetarium and an historic 9 3/4-inch Cooke refractor telescope, through which evening visitors can observe a variety of Solar System and deep-sky objects. The facility offers interactive galleries, including a do-it-yourself Black Hole and asteroids, a real marama rock, and a rocket blast-off experience. Visitors can also explore the Tūhura Space Module and learn about Māori starlore and navigation. The planetarium features a range of shows for all ages, and the observatory offers telescope viewings on clear evenings
