The Pupu Hydro Walkway is a 5.5 km loop track that follows the water race of the historic Pupu Hydro Station. The walkway showcases a beautiful array of native bush and the historic engineering feat of the 1.6 km long water race. The track passes through a forest of young beech, rimu, and mature podocarps, and features several aqueducts and a penstock. The walkway is suitable for families, but supervision is required, especially around the water race, as there are no barriers and the drop to the valley below is steep. The area is home to an abundance of bird life, including tui, bellbirds, weka, and kereru, and features a variety of plant species, including silver pine, mountain cedar, and mountain toatoa
