Wharariki Beach

Beach Collingwood, Tasman, New Zealand

What to expect

Wharariki Beach is a stunning beach on the Tasman Sea, west of Cape Farewell, the northernmost point of the South Island of New Zealand. The beach is accessible via a 20-minute walking track from the end of Wharariki Road and is known for its beautiful sandy beach, caverns, islands, and enormous sand dunes. It's a great spot for families, with a colony of fur seal pups that can be seen playing in the pools at low tide. The beach is also home to the famous Archway Islands, a small archipelago of four islands that are featured frequently in photos and are even the default lock screen image on Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system. Visitors can walk along the beach at low tide and explore the surrounding area, but should be aware of strong currents and rips, making it not suitable for swimming. The beach is surrounded by Puponga Farm Park and Kahurangi National Park, offering opportunities for further exploration
