What to expect

Puke Ariki is a combined museum and library that offers a range of exhibits and activities for visitors of all ages. The museum features three permanent galleries showcasing life in Taranaki, its unique geology, flora and fauna, and the museum’s Māori taonga. Two temporary galleries house a wide range of changing exhibitions. The library provides access to a great selection of adults’ and children’s fiction and non-fiction books, ebooks, DVDs, audiobooks, newspapers, and magazines. Puke Ariki also includes a research centre, a visitor information centre, and several community libraries. The site has a rich history, having been a significant Māori pā and later a military camp and government building. Today, it is a hub of knowledge and culture, offering something for everyone to enjoy

Activities: We spent several hours at the Puke Ariki complex, which includes a museum, a library, a research center and a tourist reception center. The children received a bingo game to fill out as they visited
