What to expect

The North Egmont Visitor Centre is a great place to start your exploration of Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki, also known as Egmont National Park. The centre offers expert advice and in-depth local knowledge on recreational opportunities, current safety messages, and conservation. You can get information on local tracks and huts, weather and avalanche reports, and purchase quality merchandise, hut tickets, and topographical maps. The centre also provides personal locator beacon hire and has toilets available outside with 24-hour access. The park itself is a mountainous area with a diverse range of vegetation, and it's home to many bird species. It's a popular tourist destination with a rich history and legend, and it's considered sacred by the tangata whenua of the area
