Milford Sound is a fiord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island, known for its breathtaking natural beauty, with towering peaks, cascading waterfalls, and stunning views. It is a must-see destination, often described as the 'eighth wonder of the world' by Rudyard Kipling. The fiord is surrounded by sheer rock faces that rise 1,200 metres or more on either side, and is home to two permanent waterfalls, Lady Bowen Falls and Stirling Falls. The area is also known for its high level of rainfall, with a mean annual rainfall of 6,412 mm, making it one of the wettest inhabited places in the world. Visitors can explore the sound by boat cruise, kayak, or on foot, and can also visit the underwater observatory at Harrison Cove to see the local marine life, including black coral, sea stars, and anemones
