Aramoana Beach

Beach Port Chalmers, Otago, New Zealand

What to expect

Aramoana is a small coastal settlement with a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere, featuring beautiful beaches, a wildlife reserve, and a boardwalk through the nearby salt marsh. The beaches are separated by the Aramoana Mole, a massive man-made breakwater, and are home to native New Zealand sea lions and yellow-eyed penguins. Visitors can enjoy the beach, go rock climbing, or take a walk along the boardwalk to spot local bird life. It's essential to respect the local wildlife and keep a safe distance from sea lions and penguins. The area is also a great spot for land yachting, especially in favorable Nor'Easter winds

This family's experience:

Activities: We visited Aramoana Beach thanks to a geocaching outing. We saw fur seals that are so used to fishermen that they don't even react to tourists! We also saw penguins!

Highlights: The kids were thrilled to see the fur seals and penguins. We could admire them sleeping, playing and even hunting. We even saw our first penguins!!!! ✨
