What to expect

Rainbow Road is a 112-kilometer unsealed back-country road that runs from Hanmer Springs to St Arnaud, passing through the Marlborough Region. The road offers a wilderness driving experience with rugged terrain and stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. It crosses private land at Rainbow Station, where visitors can enjoy activities such as mountain biking and hiking. The road is also home to the Rainbow Rage mountain bike race and offers access to several camping areas, including Lake Tennyson and Sedgemere Lakes. The highest point on the road is Island Saddle, which is the highest publicly accessible road in New Zealand at 1347 meters
