The Margaret Mahy Family Playground is a large playground located in the Christchurch Central City on the banks of the Avon River. It is the largest playground in the Southern Hemisphere and features a wide array of play equipment, including a 10m high tower, 4m high climbing slope with stainless slides, in-ground trampolines, flying foxes, water play, climbing nets, and small artworks. The playground is designed to cater to children of all ages and abilities, with a focus on deliberate but managed risk. The playground also incorporates narratives and imagery from local children's writers and Ngai Tahu, adding a unique cultural element to the space. The playground is a great place for families to visit, with plenty of space for kids to run around and have fun, as well as food carts and BBQs available for picnics
