Lakes in Rotorua, New Zealand, are a popular destination for water activities such as swimming, fishing, and boating. The lakes are known for their stunning natural beauty and offer a range of experiences, from relaxing on the shore to thrilling adventures like jet boat tours and whitewater rafting. The Bay of Plenty Regional Council has implemented a diversion wall in Lake Rotoiti to improve the lake's water quality by preventing nutrients from flowing into it from Lake Rotorua. The wall is designed to last for at least 50 years and has been built with feedback from the public and technical studies. The lakes are also home to several guided tours and activities, including paddle boarding, kayaking, and fishing. The Rotorua Te Arawa Lakes Programme is a partnership between the Bay of Plenty Regional Council, the Rotorua Lakes Council, and the Te Arawa Lakes Trust, aiming to preserve and protect the Rotorua lakes for present and future generations
