Mount Eden

Volcano Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand

What to expect

Mount Eden is a suburb in Auckland, New Zealand, whose name honours George Eden, 1st Earl of Auckland. It is 4 kilometres south of the Central Business District and features a dormant volcano, Maungawhau / Mount Eden, which is the highest natural point on the Auckland isthmus. The area has a rich history, with evidence of Māori settlements and European settlement in the 19th century. Today, it is a 'leafy suburb' with large houses, verdant gardens, and large trees. Visitors can explore the maunga, which offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the city and beyond. The Te Ipu Kōrero o Maungawhau Visitor Experience Centre provides interactive exhibits and digital displays that bring the maunga's rich history to life. Families can also enjoy the playground at the base of the mountain
