The park is the remains of a volcanic explosion crater and tuff ring, with a small scoria cone in the center. It features several sports fields, a cricket pavilion, and the Auckland War Memorial Museum. The park also has a native forest, a fernery, and the Domain Wintergardens, which consist of two large glasshouses exhibiting temperate and tropical plants. Visitors can walk through the park, fly a kite, feed ducks, or follow a trail of outdoor sculptures.
