What to expect

Het Scheepvaartmuseum is a maritime museum that showcases 500 years of Dutch maritime history and its connection to society. The museum has a large and prominent maritime collection, with approximately 400,000 objects, including paintings, ship models, navigational instruments, and world maps. Visitors can explore the museum's interactive exhibitions, which bring maritime history to life. Next to the museum is a replica of a V.O.C. ship that sailed around the world in the Golden Age. The museum also offers a Virtual Reality time travel experience, where visitors can travel back to the 'golden age' on board the VOC ship Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM with family, with children
This family's experience:

Activities: We visited a replica of a 18th-century ship, the VOC. "Everything has been reconstructed in detail: the captain's cabin, the roasted chicken still on the table, the holds full of reserves (especially cheese!), the belly of the boat with the barrels, the cannons and the hammocks where the sailors snored…"

Highlights: It was fun and educational. "It's fun and instructive, you'd think you were in the Playmobil pirate ship life-size!" ✨
