Rembrandtplein

Square Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands

What to expect

Rembrandtplein is a major square in central Amsterdam, Netherlands, named after Rembrandt van Rijn who owned a house nearby from 1639 to 1656. The square has its origins in the defensive walls constructed in the Middle Ages to protect the city and was previously known as Botermarkt or butter market. Today, it is a popular area for nightlife, with many hotels, cafés, and entertainment venues. The square features a statue of Rembrandt by sculptor Louis Royer, as well as other attractions such as the Pathé Tuschinski cinema and the largest interactive video screen in Europe. The square is also home to various bars, pubs, and clubs, including the chic and classy Club Rain and Escape, and the more casual Studio 80 and Club Smokey. For families, there are also some more low-key options, such as the Irish pub Mulligans and the Australian-themed bar Coco's Outback
