Boudhanath Stupa

Stupa Kathmandu, Bagmati, Nepal

What to expect

Boudhanath Stupa, also known as Boudha Stupa, is a significant spiritual landmark and one of the largest stupas in the world. It is a focal point for Buddhist pilgrimage and daily devotion. The stupa is 36 meters high and has a unique design, with a dome that is constantly being whitewashed and adorned with saffron water in lotus-petal patterns. The stupa is surrounded by representations of the 100 peaceful and wrathful deities and has a low wall with many Mani wheels and a khora path for circumambulation. The area around the stupa has over 50 gompas and Buddhist monasteries, as well as many restaurants and shops. Visitors can walk around the stupa and spin the prayer wheels, and the stupa is said to fulfill wishes made in front of it. The stupa is also home to many Tibetan refugees who have settled in the area and is a popular tourist destination
