Inle Lake is a freshwater lake located in the Nyaungshwe Township of Shan State, part of Shan Hills in Myanmar. It is the second largest lake in Myanmar, with an estimated surface area of 44.9 square miles. The lake is home to a diverse fauna and many species found nowhere else in the world, including over 35 native species of fish, 45 species of freshwater snails, and a small endemic freshwater crab. The lake's environment is under serious pressure due to pollution, siltation, eutrophication, overfishing, and introduced species. The people of Inle Lake, known as the Intha, live in four cities bordering the lake and on the lake itself, and are predominantly devout Buddhists who practice a unique rowing style and are largely self-sufficient farmers
