What to expect

Santa Elena is a municipality in the Mexican state of Yucatán, located roughly 95 km south of the city of Mérida. The town has a rich history, with the original location founded in the area named Nohcacab, which was inhabited during the Classic Maya period. The municipality is home to several archaeological sites, including Uxmal, Kabah, Nohpat, Xcoh, and Mul chic, which are part of the Puuc Region. Visitors can also explore the San Mateo Church, the Presbytery of the Church, and the Church of Santa Elena. The town celebrates the feast in honor of Santo Cristo del Amor from January 10 to 24 and the festival in honor of Santos Reyes of San Mateo on May 17. The Santa Elena Mummies Cultural Center and Artistic Museum is another attraction, where visitors can learn about the history of the municipality and see the famous mummies found in the San Mateo Church. The museum also features a Mayan tomb and exhibits on the region's attractions, including cenotes and archaeological sites
