Cozumel

Cozumel is an island and municipality in the Caribbean Sea, located off the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. The island is 48 km long and 16 km wide, with a total area of 477.961 km2. It is Mexico's largest Caribbean island and has a population of 88,626. Cozumel is a flat island based on limestone, resulting in a karst topography, with many cenotes and mangrove forests. The island is home to several endemic species, including the Cozumel emerald, Cozumel great curassow, and Cozumel thrasher. The island's only town, San Miguel, has a pleasant, small-town atmosphere and is a great place to explore, with many restaurants, shops, and nightlife. Cozumel is also a popular destination for snorkeling, diving, and fishing, with the Mesoamerican reef, the second-largest reef system in the world, located just off the coast.
