What to expect

Desierto de los Leones National Park is a mountainous area located in the Sierra de las Cruces range, offering a temperate climate with forests of fir, ash, and oak trees. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including seven species of amphibians, nine reptiles, and over 30 mammals, as well as more than 100 bird species. Visitors can enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, running, and bicycling, and the park also hosts cultural and artistic events, sporting competitions, and celebrations of food and family on weekends. The park's altitude varies between 2,600 and 3,700 meters above sea level, giving it a relatively cold and damp climate. It is considered the oldest protected biosphere in Mexico and was declared a national park in 1917
