Becan is an important Maya archaeological zone located in the Rio Bec area of the Yucatan Peninsula. The site is surrounded by a moat and a wall with seven original entrances, and it encompasses about 61 acres. Becan has one of the largest pyramids in the Rio Bec area, with a unique architectural style featuring high twin towers, steep stairways, and faux temples. The site was first settled around 550 BCE and experienced significant growth during the Late Classic period. Visitors can explore the site, climb structures, and take in the stunning views of the surrounding area. The site features several impressive structures, including Structure IX, which is the tallest on the site, and Structure X, a large palace with a pyramid front and a monster mouth entrance. A beautiful frieze of a king was recently discovered at the site, and it is now protected in a climate-controlled room
