Calakmul is a Maya archaeological site located in the Mexican state of Campeche, deep in the jungles of the greater Petén Basin region. It was one of the largest and most powerful ancient cities ever uncovered in the Maya lowlands. The site features a large pyramid, known as Structure 2, which is over 45 meters high and has four tombs located within it. Calakmul was a major Maya power during the Classic period and had a population of around 50,000 people. The site is surrounded by dense residential structures and covers an area of approximately 20 square kilometers. Visitors can explore the ancient structures and learn about the history and culture of the Maya civilization
