Calakmul Biosphere Reserve

The Calakmul Biosphere Reserve is a protected area located in the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, covering over 7,000 square kilometers of tropical rainforest. It is home to a vast array of flora and fauna, including 86 species of mammals, such as jaguars, jaguarundis, ocelots, pumas, and margays, as well as many species of birds, including parrots, toucans, and ocellated turkeys. The reserve also includes the ancient Maya city of Calakmul, one of the largest-known Maya sites, which provides a glimpse into the history and culture of the region.
