Mdina, also known as the 'Silent City', is a fortified medieval town in Malta that has been inhabited since prehistory. The town has a rich history, with Phoenician, Greek, and Roman ruins, and was an important center of administration during the Roman Republic. Today, Mdina is a popular tourist destination, known for its narrow streets, beautiful views, and historic buildings, including the Baroque cathedral church of Malta and several 15th-, 16th-, and 17th-century palaces. Visitors can explore the town's medieval character, visit the Natural History Museum, the Carmelite Church and Priory, and the Cathedral Museum, among other attractions. The town is also home to many palaces, most of which serve as private homes, and has a small population of around 250 people
