Semengoh Wildlife Centre

Wildlife sanctuary Siburan, Sarawak, Malaysia

What to expect

The Semengoh Wildlife Centre is a nature reserve and orangutan sanctuary where visitors can observe semi-wild orangutans in their natural habitat. The centre was established in 1975 to care for injured, orphaned, or formerly captive animals, with the goal of rehabilitating them for release back into the wild. The centre is home to over 20 orangutans, including some that have been born in the wild to rehabilitated mothers. Visitors can watch the orangutans during feeding sessions, which take place twice a day, and learn about these amazing creatures from the park rangers. The centre also offers a chance to explore the surrounding forest and see other wildlife, making it a great destination for families and nature lovers

This family's experience:

Activities: We visited the Semengoh Wildlife Centre at feeding time (9:00 -10:00 AM and 3:00-3:300 PM) and walked along a paved road for 15 to 20 minutes to get to the first feeding platform

Highlights: Our three children, ages 7 to 12, loved watching Ritchie, the big alpha male, break open coconuts by smashing them against a tree trunk ✨
