Fort Cornwallis is a bastion fort in George Town, Penang, Malaysia, built by the British East India Company in the late 18th century. It is the largest standing fort in Malaysia and was originally built as a defensive fort to protect against pirates and unfriendly neighbours on the mainland. However, it never engaged in combat during its operational history and served as an administrative centre for the growing settlement. The fort features several historical buildings, including a chapel and a gunpowder room, as well as old cannons, such as the famous Seri Rambai cannon. The fort has undergone several renovations and restorations over the years and is now one of Penang's prime tourist attractions
